There’s a new candidate in the race for Michigan House in the 79th District. Kim LaSata is now seeking the seat about to be vacated by State Representative Al Pscholka. LaSata teaches fifth grade at Lake Michigan Catholic Elementary in Saint Joseph, and says she wants to craft sound education policy if she makes it to Lansing. LaSata was named Teacher of the Year at LMC Elementary in 2015, and says she understands the “challenges and needs of our children.” She also says job creation is a priority, noting Berrien County’s position on the border with Indiana gives its businesses unique needs. LaSata is a graduate of Lake Michigan Catholic High School and Western Michigan University. He campaign co-chairs will be Mary Tatter, of Watervliet, and Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey. LaSata and her husband, Charlie LaSata, live in Bainbridge Township, and have raised four children.
